Factors that may impact cabinet refacing costs:

1. Material you choose

These are some of the most common materials that people use for refacing cabinets:
- Ridged Thermofoil (RTF)
- Plastic laminate
- Wood veneer

RTF is the cheapest material available, followed by laminate. Wood is the most expensive option. Be careful with the cost of wood as it can quickly get expensive if you choose a high-end or rare type of wood.

2. Amount of cabinets

How large is your kitchen? The more cabinets you have, the more time and materials required to finish the project.

Some contractors measure the length of your cabinets and charge a set price per linear foot. Other contractors price per "hole", which means they count the number of cabinets and number of drawers and charge a set price per piece.

3. Cabinet design options

When refacing your cabinets, you have the opportunity to choose new hardware such as knobs, pulls, and hinges. These hardware pieces can range in price from $5 to $25 - depending on the quality of materials.

Adding organizational features or special add-ons to your cabinets will come at an additional cost. If you want to add a lazy susan, interior drawers, glass windows, or other upgrades, expect to pay higher prices.

4. Current condition of cabinets

Refacing projects are ideal for cabinets that are in good shape – the structure of them is strong, and there’s no water damage or warping. If there are a few parts that need repair, expect to pay extra.

If there is extensive damage, it might make sense to replace your cabinets altogether rather than repair and reface them.

5. Costs in your geographic area

Due to differences in hourly rates for contractor work across the country, the price of cabinet refacing varies depending on where you live. Be sure to get multiple quotes in your area to compare cost estimates.
